Can Your Windshield be Repaired or Replaced?
Repairing a windshield involves filling the crack or chip with resin to cure and stop the damage from spreading across the glass. Replacing the windshield involves installing an entirely new windshield. We look at two deciding factors when determining which option is best for your Toyota.
Size of the Damage
The first factor our technicians look at is the size of the damage. Cracks shorter than 3 inches, and rock chips smaller than the circumference of a quarter, can be repaired quickly without a replacement windshield needing to be installed. However, if the damage to your windshield is larger than stated above, we will need to install a replacement windshield.
Location of the Damage
The second factor we look at is where the damage is located on your windshield. If the damage is located near the windshield perimeter, we’ll likely install a replacement windshield. This is because damage near the edge of the windshield is more likely to spread over time and will negatively impact the windshield's structural integrity.
It is important to note that when damage is located directly within the driver’s line of sight, no matter the size, we will usually replace the windshield altogether. This is because the repair process will leave behind a minor distortion in the glass, which could impair visibility. Chip's Auto Glass never aims to hinder driver visibility with our service.
