Does Your Windshield Need Repairs or Complete Replacement?
Some windshield damage can be repaired, while some damage requires replacing the windshield entirely. We look at two deciding factors to determine which option your Tesla will need.
Size of the Damage
We can quickly repair cracks shorter than 3 inches and rock ships smaller than the circumference of a quarter. If the damage to your Tesla’s windshield is larger than that, we will need to install a replacement windshield.
Location of the Damage
If we determine that the damage is small enough to be repaired, we then look at where the damage is located. Damage located near the windshield’s perimeter will call for a replacement. That’s because damage toward the edge of the windshield is more likely to spread and develop over time. If the damage is located toward the center of the glass and is small enough, we can repair it without replacing the windshield.
However, there are occasions when the damage Is located directly within the driver’s line of sight. We will elect to replace the windshield in these cases, no matter the size of the damage. We choose to replace the windshield in these instances because the repair process leaves behind a minor distortion in the glass, which could impair driver visibility on the road.
